I see the same behavior -- Unity3d seems to start but all that happens is a the background is drawn, and there are no panels, no launcher and no desktop displayed. However, I do not find the DRI2SwapInterval message anywhere. This was working properly last Wednesday (21 March) but when I updated on the morning of the 23rd (about 10:00 MDT), it broke Unity3d. The only thing I can get to work is Unity2d (none of the GNOME sessions, sawfish or twm will work either). Unfortunately, I updated on the 23rd to pick up a repair for the compiz right-click-and- crash bug and seem to have made things much, much worse.
