The MS Monopoly, poll results

Before I became ill, I posted a question about what should happen to
Microsoft as a
result of the trial.

A full two-thirds of respondants said they should be broken up in one
way or another,
and I would have to agree, this is a substantial and fitting
punishment for the crime
committed.

Microsoft has abused their power too much to get away with a slap on
the wrist again -
and the only recourse I see as fit is to take away the piece that
holds the power - the OS.

Now, many will say if you break MS up by departments, then one part
still has the
"monopoly power". This is incorrect.

It is true that they will still have the same monopoly status in OSes,
but in order to use
its power, they must have somewhere to leverage it onto, and with a
breakup, they no
longer are pushing other parts of their business (because they no
longer own them).

Throughout the week, I will be exploring the possible outcomes and
their effects on
Apple and the Mac, as I return from my weeklong unplanned hiatus.

Here are the results:

What do you want to happen to Microsoft?

Fined (15) 4%
Forced to license source (52) 14%
Broken up by dept. (160) 42%
Broken into equal companies (87) 23%
Govt Regulated (31) 8%
Who cares? (37) 10%
