Thursday, April 8, 1999 By Apple News Editor John H. Farr A company called WebSide Story has apparently released the results of a new study purporting to show that only 2.68 percent of Web users use Macs. Furthermore, the same study ranks Internet Explorer as being used by 68.75 percent of the computers on the Internet! The Microsoft operating system is allegedly used by 94.52 percent of all computers on the Web, and Linux? Sorry, folks: only .19 percent. Amazing, isn't it? A big hats-off to Ben Wilson at MacCentral for unearthing this astounding bit of nonsense. It seems that the survey comes from statistics gathered from 55,000 Web sites using the "HitBOX" tracker, which, uh, "only provides a viewer for Windows." Ben also provides us with the news that 55 percent of MacCentral visitors are using Netscape. [We have to conclude that those 2.68 percent of Web users who use Macs must also use Netscape and are awfully big MacCentral fans or are somehow generating remarkably skewed statistics. ;-) -- JHF] ---------------------------------------------------------------- Compu-Mania MailingList is provided by PT Centrin Utama Maintained by : [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Post a msg : Send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe : Mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] BODY : unsubscribe Compu-Mania For more information, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "HELP" in the BODY of your mail (without quote). ----------------------------------------------------------------
