Apple also has societal issues to overcome: Some of the most fervent Apple
supporters are decidedly unpleasant individuals who cannot tolerate even
the slightest expression of a negative opinion about Apple or an Apple
product. One example: In a recent column, I asked if Apple's turnaround was
sustainable or not. It was an open-ended question designed to provoke
discussion and an exchange of opinions. Instead -- believe it or not -- I
actually got death threats from some Mac users who regard me as, I dunno,
Satan. How dare I, the "Windows guy," suggest that Apple's destiny is less
than manifest? (As if the history of Apple's last dismal decade is all in
my imagination.)
