First off, because of my vacation the week before, I missed the
fact that Microsoft quietly, informally, announced the final name
for Windows Millennium. It'll be called Windows ME (which stands
for Millennium Edition). It's also been reported by more than one
source that Microsoft intends to ship Windows ME in May. I'm here
to tell you that -- while Microsoft is neither confirming nor
denying -- a May ship date has to be someone's pipe dream. I do
agree, though, that Microsoft will push Windows ME out without a
whole lot of fanfare as soon it can. Right now, I predict July.
The official word on the subject from Redmond is still "some time
in 2000."
