Kapan di Indonesia ya ? AMD SPEEDS PAST INTEL TO 1GHZ by Dave Murphy, [EMAIL PROTECTED] AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) will release a 1GHz Athlon microprocessor to distributors on Monday. This makes AMD's processor not only the fastest general purpose CPU, but it will also put Intel in the hot seat to release its own 1GHz processor, weeks faster than originally planned. The 1GHz processor is 10x faster than a 100MHz processor. The race between AMD and Intel is getting exciting because before last week, "1 gig" processors weren't expected until the middle of the production year. Compaq will be the first to ship AMD Athlon 1GHz processors in ready-made systems. As reported in this newsletter earlier this week, HP and IBM will ship Intel Pentium III 1GHz systems before the end of the month; now, probably before the end of next week. For those who don't need the absolutely fastest PC on the block, AMD will also release 900MHz and 950MHz Athlon chips on Monday. After the dust settles from Monday's shipment, I'll be watching to see which company can ship their chips in quantity. Intel's been having some serious manufacturing woes, and I'm putting my short-term money on AMD. Call for Comments What do you think?
