From: Dike<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY The SmartDownload feature in Netscape's Navigator (included as an option since version 4.7) logs user downloads and sends this data back to Netscape. This data includes the file name, the file server's name and the user's IP address. It may also include the user's email address. A cookie pointing to this information is also added to the browser. This is all done without informing the user or asking his/her permission. This information is also sent out when Netscape's Search option is used. DETAILS A privacy problem exist in Netscape's SmartDownload product (and in its internal search engine option), whenever they are used Netscape gets informed. The information travels through the internet to cgi.netscape.com, in form of files that contain detailed information about the user's behavior.
