How can Google do that? Or why would they want to?

It so arbitrary .... non- digital ... one is an outgoing mail and one is an incoming mail. They are two distinct critters with different senders and each conveys meta data or timing info information other than what is in the body of text. So we know our message got there and back and can know when to start expecting responses if any etc.

Lot's of list-serves give you that configuration choice of not seeing your own post but you get the make the choice ... the default is to see your own post and you have to decide to choose otherwise.

I have a gmail account but don't use it with lists so haven't observed the phenomenon you are talking about.

I'm surprised that the Google tech people are thinking in such "fuzzy" ways...

Wait a second, as far as gmail goes.

You should see all your *replies*. Because they are automatically
associated with the conversation already there.

As for posts, it would be great if you could have filters on your sent mail,
instead of just the inbox.

The trick is that Gmail considers the message coming back from the list to
be the same as the original posting and drops it.

Are you new to gmail? I hate this "feature" too and wish they gave us
the _option_ to see our own replies. But I gotta admit I'm getting
used to it.

My posts don't seem to get through lately. Would someone please just
 comment if you see this?
