I had an issue over the weekend where my XP PC started being very wonky. So, I ran chkdsk and defrag, which didn't help. I then did a system restore in safe mode, previous to the time where I installed SP3 and AVG 8.0, 5 days previous. Ran chkdsk and defraged (jkdrfrag--an excellent free utility) again and the wonkiness went away. I had tried installing SP3 via Windows Update and it didn't ever seem to finish (and my kids kept getting on the computer).
Now it's stable again and I'll try SP3 again this weekend, this time via the downloadable file. Another suggestion to the below list is to reinstall the last service pack again. That has worked in the past when problems have crept in, unlike the issue I mention above, which was most likely the result of a bad install of a service pack. > -----Original Message----- > Have to move this up to Level 2.
