Yeah metal as it gets colder shrinks.
Also electronics biggest enemy is heat. As things heat up they
expand and can also loosen contacts. The cycle of heating and
cooling can be deadly for electronics.
Freezing a hard drive casues all its components to shrink
(infinitesimaly) which may be enough until it gets heated up to be
able to read and get data off.
