>All this talk of failure, wasn't someone supposed to tell us about drives >that don't fail?
Good point. Same point. Back when the manufacturing of hard drives was a black art and the MTBF in the low 5 digits I think the brand to brand differences were more significant. MTBF is now 10 times better and the average disk drive is a much better product. Today there in no drive brand on my shit list. There you have it -- a message of universal love from Tom. P.S. As Tony pointed out, for certain applications with unusual characteristics -- like video -- you need to make sure the drive is rated for long sustained data transfers. Lesser drives will overheat and start to smoke. ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
