My friend also has a hearing problem. Maybe instead of trying slow the file down, we can play with the tone adjustments. I'll let you know if that works.

Certain radio stations (sometimes NPR) and some books on tape use speakers whose voice range is in the lower end which makes it hard for me to always understand what they are saying. (I have to turn the bass way down in my car and that sucks!)

I think a good machine with a good tone adjustment would help a lot.
