Have you seen the zippy TV commercials for HP's TouchSmart computer? On TV it looks so much like a big 21-inch iTouch. A fun to use media machine. Looks very interesting.
So I spent some time with it at Best Buy. What I found was that instead of the commercial giving a taste of what it was like to use the TouchSmart, the commercial showed all there was -- there wasn't much more that was cool. My main gripe was that the on screen controls were so small, even tiny. I do not have fat fingers, but I found it exceedingly hard to hit targets. Why could not HP skin the UI to make the controls finger size? What is the point of being so tiny? The screen did not respond well to finger commands, like double-tapping an icon to open or launch. I often had to try 2, 3, or 4 times to get it to respond. It made me feel awkward. Not a good feeling. Great commercial, but I think the product is not ready for prime time. ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
