i looked into the iphones for me and for my wife. we both in the middle of very favorable ATT contracts (corporate negotiated holdovers)that i do not think we can cancel and and reup. to get an iPhone, we would have to either pay the full price, or buy out, and re up at probably $10--20 a month more.
My son gave me two hand-me-up Christmas presents--his iPod Touch and his S-E 580i mobile phone. He got a new iPhone. I wasn't sure if he could switch phones so early in his contract [05/2008]. He went to the Apple Store, not the AT&T store, late on the Sunday evening before Christmas. The Apple Store handled switching contracts [no penalty], and the iPhone was $199 as advertised. On Monday, he went to the AT&T store to get all his data transferred directly from his old to his new phone. They also gave him an unlock code for his old phone. Cavan is thrilled with his iPhone. I'm thrilled with the Touch, but have a lot to learn about it. S-E is nice, but I still like Nokia better, except, of course, the price--free is good [free, plus $5000 toward his grad school loan].
Bottom line is this: Go to the Apple Store. They'll fix you up. There is only one plan for the iPhone and it's not cheap, but includes unlimited data. See how it compares to what you have, feature for feature. Don't know if there's a shared plan for 2 iPhones.
Now, where can I get a USB cable for a Sony-Ericsson W580i phone? How about an adapter for the speakers--S-E proprietary to stereo mini?
