What I am getting at is am I going to have reset my Mac Network (I believe it is an Apple Talk network)?

I'm looking at this to control file sharing with a Linux laptop. I currently have a small network (an iMac running 10.4.11, a MacBook Pro running 10.5.6, and PowerBook which can run/boot either 10.2.8 or OS 9). I would install it on my iMac.

Do you know if it would affect my current network?

It sure would, but isn't that the goal? Your network would get AFP file sharing. Your Linux box can get access via Samba. That should make it a happy little network.
