Yes, I do know that.  "POP3" was just shorthand for saying "staying with
your crappy ISP," but obviously shorthand wasn't a good choice there.

The best solution is to dump the ISP mail and use Gmail via IMAP.  You get
the best of both worlds; local access with online backup and spam filtering.
You can also configure Gmail for offline access.
