Apparently Win7 will include a downloadable virtual environment and a
complete, fully licensed copy of XP. The environment runs on the Win7
desktop, so there's no need to start a separate desktop for programs that
require XP.

The real significance of this is that it allows MS to start cleaning
deadwood out of Windows. There's a ton of stuff that's in there just for
compatibility reasons and, since anyone will be able to quickly access XP,
MS can start getting rid of it.
