Is it asking which file format to use?

Start with the Preferences, General tab. Click on Import Settings and
choose a compression format [MP3, AAC...] or uncompressed [AIFF, WAV],
set a bitrate, or create custom higher bitrate settings. With MP3 and
AAC you can put many more tracks on your iPod. AIFF and WAV files are
larger, can have much better sound quality, but fewer will fit on your iPod.

Also select the location for saving your imported music in the
preferences. Otherwise you may forget and not be able to find them if
you want to listen in another player
