That means of synthesis, perhaps more accurately called sampling, is what has been used many times to assemble phrases that appear on the surface to have been uttered by a famous personality who has a voice that is easily recognizable.
Stephen Hawking has, apparently, had opportunities over the years to upgrade his "voice" but hasn't because what he has now is recognizable as him.
BTW, does anybody know where to get his voice? It would be nice to have someone other than "Microsoft Mary" barking out directions on the GPS.
