Ah, it turns out to depend on wunderground's "rapid fire" feature... which I assume is ajax-ish, continuous update of some of the current weather stats. If I hit "disable rapid fire", the duplicates go away; if I hit "enable rapid fire", they come back. Looks like http://www.wunderground.com/stationmaps/rtupdate.js is the javascript that implements it, and it uses assignment to innerHTML to change things...
