I find that I often want to do a web search (for a lack of a better
word than googling) on a piece of text in a page I'm reading. What
this usually involves is:
1) Grab the mouse and select the section of text I want to search for
2) Copy it (M-w)
3) Follow link in a new buffer (C-x, C-f)
4) Paste (C-y)
5) Hit enter

This isn't the worst thing in the world, but one of the few common
tasks I find myself doing in conkeror that require use of the mouse
(something I loathe, one of my primary reasons for switching to
conkeror). So my question(s) are thus:

1) Is there a way to do this automatically (search web for selected
text) that I'm not aware of?
2) If not could someone point me in the direction of how to access the
'selected text' pragmatically so I can write my own function to do so?

Thanks.
