Ok, so Conkeror just updated a couple of hours ago; I'm using the
noone.orgnightly debs, and so maybe the version I was running this
morning was not
the latest-latest version... (I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that the nightly
debs would be as up-to-date as the git archive)

Running the freshly updated version: problems (1) & (2) seem to be gone (so
no weird favicons and need to change tabs to see icons).

But problem (3) is still present (for sites like
http://www.omgubuntu.co.ukwhich use facebook/digg/stumbleupon etc
icons on their pages).
