No problem here, with Conkeror 1.0pre and XULRunner 8.0. I don't believe that could be deprecated, either, because non-breaking whitespace is an essential character. (Perhaps you heard that particular uses of it were deprecated (one sees it abused by wysiwyg editors) but surely not the entity itself.)
