Just adding some info, since the commit message is a bit wrong:
connline does not use ConnectionType. It has been added for other
requirements
(if I remember well it was about w3c networking info api implementation.)
But indeed, when apps will be identified properly, this could be moved
to the session configuration plugin then.

The ConnectionType configuration option will be moved to
the config plugin when we know how the application can be
identified uniquily (in a persistent way). We keep
ConnectionType for now because there is a known user
(connline).
