Subject: Whisky in the jar..or not! Hi,
I post of behalf of Dundee Heritage Trust who have in their care a bottle of Challoners "Discovery" Whisky - "supplied for the use of Officers and Staff onboard SS Discovery, National Antarctic Expedition" 1901. http://www.dhtcollections.com/item/Brand_ChallonersDiscovery whisky_450_0_28617_1.html It is on display and a photograph from 2004 shows the whisky level has now dropped by approx 30mm. The bottle is unopened and the seal around the cork and neck of bottle is intact. As it is displayed upright the assumption is the cork may have dried out thereby no longer creating a good seal. They want to reduce the evaporation of the whisky whilst trying to retain the original seal - which is very well adhered to the bottle. Any ideas and comments appreciated.
