We would always avoid having any mdf or zfmdf in show cases as even when sealed with marvelseal or painted and varnished, there is always the potential for the seal to become imperfect. Our showcases have metal backs if against a wall or are glass on all sides. If we require a back board to mount objects from we use a sheet of clear acrylic or Fermacell which is painted and varnished with a water based varnish, and has the benefit of being able to be drilled and then the holes can be filled and it can be drilled again in a different place.
