The Texas State Library and Archives Commission seeks applicants for its 2017 Summer Conservation Internship. The Conservation Intern conducts supervised conservation treatment of library and archival materials in the Texas State Library and Archives Commission’s Summerlee Conservation Lab. Under close supervision of the Conservator, the intern will perform treatment activities including evaluating collections materials for treatment, recording treatment documentation, executing treatment, and constructing protective housings. The Conservation Intern also completes a preservation survey project focusing on scrapbooks or journals within manuscripts collections. This survey assists in prioritizing future preservation and conservation activities. Other tasks may include environmental monitoring and exhibit preparation.
Applicants should be a c*urrent student in or recent (within one year) graduate of a Master’s Degree-level conservation training program. Applicants m*ust be able to commit to 280 hours of work over eight to 10 consecutive weeks between May and September 2017. Salary: $14.28/hr.
