Assistant Objects Conservator - Michael C. Carlos Museum, Emory University The Michael C. Carlos Museum of Emory University seeks a full-time Assistant Conservator of Objects to join the staff of the Parsons Conservation Laboratory. Under the supervision of the Chief Conservator, the Assistant Conservator will accomplish examination, preventive maintenance, and treatment of the Museum collections. The Assistant Conservator will be responsible for completing associated documentation, analysis, and research as well as working with curatorial and collections staff on handling, storage, exhibition, and loan of the collections. The Assistant Conservator will contribute to outreach efforts and will also supervise interns and volunteers.
The Michael C. Carlos Museum includes Greek and Roman, Ancient Egyptian, Near Eastern, Nubian, Ancient American, African, and Asian art, as well as a collection of works on paper from the Renaissance to the present. The Museum is located on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The Parsons Conservation Lab was established in 1993 to serve the needs of the diverse collection. Applicants should have a Master’s Degree or Diploma from a recognized conservation degree program, with specialization in Objects conservation and a minimum of 4 years of professional experience beyond the internship level. Experience with archaeological and/ or ethnographic collections is preferred. Applicants must possess demonstrated skills in documentation, analysis, and treatment as well as strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. This is a 3-year renewable hire for a permanent full-time position.
