About the role: It's preserving a world renowned collection for future generations.
It's working as one to deliver impressive projects. And it's the satisfaction of preserving the splendour of our Royal Palace. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional. Like any historical building Buckingham Palace requires care and attention, and reservicing work is now underway to protect the building for future generations. As the largest project of its type since the 1950's, the ten year reservicing programme will ensure that the Palace is fit for purpose for the next 50 years. Joining the dedicated in-house Programme Management Office (PMO) at the start of this ambitious programme, you'll have the opportunity to advance your career in a completely new role to the household. As Collection Care & Logistics Manager, you'll ensure the safety and preservation of the items of the Royal Collection within Buckingham Palace alongside the reservicing work. You'll oversee the care of our diverse collection and historic interiors throughout the programme, acting as the key interface between the PMO and the Royal Household. In conjunction with the Moves Manager you'll define the scale, scope and timings of various collection moves, ensuring they're completed on time, to budget and to specification. For every move you'll obtain condition reports and liaise with subject matter experts to guarantee the optimum treatment and storage for objects in the collection. You'll also ensure the protection and care of items left in situ throughout works. Safeguarding these works of art is often complex, and balancing custodial needs with the demanding schedule of works will be challenging. But with effective planning, organisation and risk management, your expert steering will help ensure the delivery of a successful programme. About you: You'll have relevant qualifications in conservation or collection care, alongside practical experience working with a large, diverse and historic collection. Furthermore, with a proven knowledge of collections management, environmental monitoring and control systems for works of art in historic buildings, you're the expert we need. Exceptional planning and programming skills will be absolutely vital, enabling you to organise a varied and reactive workload. With a collaborative approach, and able to work at both a strategic and tactical level, you'll confidently evaluate and decide the best approach for each situation. And as an engaging communicator with strong customer focus, you'll be able to build strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues alike. An understanding of construction and conservation management on a large scale would be an advantage, as would experience of overseeing consultants and contractors to meet specialist conservation needs. But it's your initiative and decision making ability, along with an ability to prioritise effectively to meet multiple deadlines that will make you a real asset to the team. Above all, you'll be eager to take advantage of this new role and the unique learning opportunities that it presents.
