Summary Addressing the storage needs of over 200 National Trust properties, this post will be working with National Specialists and Heads of Profession in collections conservation and archaeology to scope the current storage of collections and archaeological archives across the whole of the National Trust, understand the need for improvement, and make recommendations in line with the latest developments in the storage of heritage artefacts. **We are open to discussing flexible working and part-time job shares. What you'll be doing You will join a team of National Specialists in Collections and work with the Preventive Conservation Adviser - Skills and Projects. We want you to use your experience and knowledge of current collections storage practice, to deepen our understanding of the storage needs of collections and archaeological archives across the Trust and options for improving access and conservation to support the presentation and conservation objectives of our national strategy. This includes permanent storage, temporary storage for rotating exhibitions and dynamic display, major incidents and building works. We want you to bring your knowledge of recent and current storage projects to bear on the Trust's needs to inform an options appraisal to improve standards of conservation and make our collections more accessible and of greater benefit to our visitors and conservation and curatorial scholars. You will work with the specialist adviser and Heads of relevant profession (particularly collections conservation and archaeology, also collections management) to survey the national need, examine some representative case studies in greater detail and draw together a high level final report making strategic and costed recommendations. You will identify and work with other regional initiatives in this area. You will also identify opportunities for engaging new and existing audiences in this work, and for attracting funding for any of the options you identify. Who we're looking for To be successful in this role, you will need the following: · A relevant professional qualification, with professional accreditation desirable, or be able to demonstrate practice at the accredited level. · Knowledge and experience of storage options needed at the proficient level to meet professional standards in the preventive and remedial conservation of collections and historic interiors, and/or of archaeological archives, including collections reviews and rationalisation. · Experience of working within an institution or appropriate level of organisational skills with the ability to work cross functionally with different colleagues. · Experience in enhancing engagement opportunities with collections etc. · Experience of carrying out surveys, collating and synthesising data and presenting it in strategic reports with costed recommendations. · Good communication skills, self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams, and inspire your colleagues about your work. · Full driving license and willingness to work at the national scale. You are likely to have a relevant post-graduate degree or qualification in collections and/or archaeological conservation, and several years' experience of working in the field including storage projects. *This role can be based at any of our regional hubs across the UK and will include substantial travel to our properties (may include periods staying away from home).
