The Courtauld's Conservation of Wall Painting Department is one of the leading centres in the world for education and research in wall painting conservation. Over the last 30 years, the department has had a major impact on the evolution of the discipline and the care of wall paintings globally. Governed by the philosophy of minimal intervention and an interdisciplinary approach, the education seeks to impart a methodology that emphasizes investigation and analysis of component materials and techniques, and diagnosis and control of the causes of deterioration. It offers the leading three-year postgraduate professional education in the conservation of wall painting. The Courtauld wishes to appoint a Lecturer in the Conservation of Wall Painting on a fixed-term basis to begin on 4 February 2019. The successful candidate will complement the existing teaching and fieldwork strengths of the department and contribute to teaching the theory and practice of wall painting conservation on the MA programme. The candidate will participate in the planning, implementation and supervision of departmental field projects, and contribute to supervision of final year MA dissertations. The appointee will have a strong background in fieldwork, good practical and organisational skills, and will contribute to raising the research profile of the department. The appointee will also play an active role in the life and administration of The Courtauld. This post is fixed term until August 2020.
