Post title: Senior Technician (Art Conservation)

Hours: 37 hours per week, permanent

Salary:  £28,048 - £34,088

Working with the Academic and Technical Team within the Department of Arts you 
will be primarily responsible for supporting and managing Art Conservation 
areas, but may be required to work across a number of creative areas within the 
faculty. You will provide specialist technical support in the art conservation 
studio and laboratory environment, with special emphasis on the safe management 
of laboratories, equipment and chemicals. In addition, you will run workshops 
and produce demonstration and reference materials for students.
You should have comprehensive knowledge of current technical practice relevant 
to Art Conservation. A team player, with excellent interpersonal skills, you 
will have experience of developing and delivering demonstration activities to 
provide excellent student experiences. Keeping up-to-date with current and 
forthcoming technical developments with special emphasis on Art Conservation in 
support of learning, teaching, research and enterprise activity in the faculty 
is essential to be successful in the role.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

*             Lead on certain induction technical workshops including 
specialist photography, technical examination and health and safety compliance.
*             Assist in the production of practical materials used by students 
for learning and research.
*             Manage the H&S documentation for Conservation of Fine Art in 
conjunction with academic and technical colleagues
*             Management of the equipment and materials used by staff and 
students
*             Assist in the completion of conservation treatments, as well as 
the handling, wrapping and packing of artworks for transportation
*             Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Principal 
Technician within the scope of the grade.  The particular responsibilities of 
all members of staff are likely to vary over time, according to the needs of 
the service.
*             Laser and Radiation Safety officer for the faculty
*             Post will be expected to undertake fire marshal responsibilities 
within the role for a designated area
