FELLOWSHIP: Heinrich Winkelmann Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum - Research on plastic degradation in museum objects (Closes on March 15th, 2019)
Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum Am Bergbaumuseum 28 44791 Bochum (Germany) The Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum (DBM) offers two postdoctoral fellowships for projects related to its research interests. The fellowship is open to candidates aiming to research the natural degradation of polymers in museum objects and help develop conservation strategies for these materials - one of the research foci of the Materials Science Research Section of the DBM (http://www.bergbaumuseum.de/en/research/research-areas/material-science). The preparation of an application for third-party funding for an extended research project at the DBM can be a part of the research stay and is specifically supported. The call is open to applicants from all countries with a background in chemistry, conservation science, materials sciences and related disciplines. Prior knowledge of German is desirable but not necessary. The submission period for the current call is now open and closes on March 15th, 2019. Heinrich Winkelmann Fellowship of the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum The Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum (DBM) provides two international postdoctoral fellowships for three months to support researchers who work in mining history, archaeology of mining, material science or archaeometallurgy. Applications showing a direct connection to the main research foci of the DBM are preferred. The preparation of an application for third-party funding for an extended research project at the DBM can be a part of the research stay and is specifically supported. The fellows have the opportunity to use the research infrastructure of the DBM. For example the Montanhistorische Dokumentationszentrum (montan.dok) including the records of the mining archive but also the collections, scientific libraries and the material science laboratory of the DBM. Besides this, the DBM closely cooperates with the Department of History and the Department of Archaeological Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum as well as with the section Applied Material Science at the TH Georg Agricola University to Bochum. The fellows are expected to participate actively in the events and research discussions of the DBM, the Ruhr University Bochum and the TH Georg Agricola University to Bochum. Research results of the fellowship should be published in "Der Anschnitt" or in "Metalla". Successful applicants need to have a PhD degree in history, archaeology, archaeometry, material science or related disciplines coupled with a keen interest in the history or archaeology of mining or in conservation science. The fellowships will be awarded for three months and will include a grant of 2,000 Euros per month and free accommodation nearby the DBM.
