Background
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a demonstrable interest 
in a career as a library and archive conservator. This post is an opportunity 
for a self-motivated individual with some practical experience in arts and

The Role
The role requires a broad interest in developing cultural heritage, 
conservation and preservation skills. This position will challenge your 
creative skills alongside developing your scientific and historic knowledge. 
The successful applicant, whilst maintaining and developing our archive 
services in a stimulating environment, will focus on gaining valuable work 
experience that will help you to develop as a heritage professional. You will 
be involved in a range of technical and professional work and be provided with 
excellent developmental opportunities.
The job is offered as a training post and will be on a fixed-term basis running 
from 2nd September 2019 - 31st August 2020. The post will report to the Book 
Conservator and you will be supervised and mentored by colleagues with the aim 
of preparing you for a career in Collections Care.
The post holder will be supported in their career developments and will be 
mentored through future job or university applications.
Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously held significant 
paid employment in museums, galleries, archives or libraries, and who have no 
existing undergraduate/postgraduate conservation training.  The post is not 
designed for students already enrolled in full or part-time conservation 
courses, including distance learning further education courses, or graduates of 
the same.

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  *   A passion for cultural heritage
  *   Demonstrable practical ability in arts/crafts-based materials
  *   Excellent written and oral communication skills
  *   Strong team-working skills
  *   Time-management skills
