ICON PAINTINGS GROUP TALK - Thursday 4 July 2019, 18:00 – 20:30

Jilleen Nadolny will talk on Goncharova & Larionov: Painting the Future

This talk will coincide with the major, single woman focused exhibition
currently showing at Tate Modern on Natalia Goncharova. Both Goncharova and
her partner Mikhail Larionov were members of leading artists’ groups across
Russia and Europe, and their work was highly influential on early 20th
century modernism. The technical practice of these two Russian artists was
the subject of a broad ranging, in depth project at the Museum Ludwig,
Cologne undertaken in 2017 by Art Analysis & Research. This talk will
explore their use of materials and techniques to create the bold and
colourful images that defined Russian art of their era.

Dr. Jilleen Nadolny led the Goncharova/ Larionov project at Art Analysis &
Research and is a historian of art technology. She obtained a double MA in
art history and art conservation at New York University before completing a
PhD at the Courtauld Institute, London. Jilleen has published widely on the
contextual history of art technology.
