 Subject: Archival ink red
 Message:

Hello Colleagues,

I am looking for red waterproof ink to label our toxic books. Each book in our
special collection has a paper strip with a barcode and signature and we want
to mark the paper strips wit a colored stamp. A green stamp to show it is XRF
tested and a red stamp to mark the toxic books.
We have tried Ranger Archival ink 'Red geranium' and 'Postbox red', but neither
is waterproof. Even after letting the stamp dry for several days the ink
bleeds.
'Emerald green' (appropriate name;)) and 'Cut grass Green' ink from the same
brand don't bleed.
I also tried 'Scarlet Flame red from StazOn, Tsukineko, a solvent-based ink and
it's not archival quality. The ink is waterproof and dries quickly, but it
seeps through to the back of the paper.

Who can help me with a tip or experience regarding red archival ink?

Thanks,

Imke

Data, Damage, and Decision-Making: The Next Era of Stained Glass Conservation

We are officially inviting proposals for our 2026 conference in York (10th–11th
October).
As we look toward the next generation, we want to explore how our field is
evolving. In an era of rapid technological shifts, environmental changes, and
global instability, how do we ensure our stained glass heritage survives and
thrives?

We encourage proposals from anyone involved or interested in stained glass
conservation, at any stage of their career. We are especially keen on novel
approaches, new techniques and underrepresented topics, including but not
limited to:
- The Future of the Craft: Working within an "endangered" craft and ensuring
long-term viability.
- Technology & Innovation: How digital tools and new materials are reshaping
our decision-making.
- Global Challenges: Responding to a globalised world and the impact of climate
change/extreme weather on heritage glass.
- Problem Solving: Current challenges and how we can mitigate them for the
future.

Submission Details:
Format: Abstract for a 15–20 minute talk.
Length: Max 300 words (including title and main talking points).
File Type: .docx or .pdf.
How to Apply: Email your proposal to [email protected].
Key Dates:
Deadline for Submissions: 30th June 2026
Conference Dates: 10th–11th October 2026
Location: The Hospitium, York
Whether you're a student, an early-career practitioner, or a seasoned pro, we
want to hear your voice! Help us shape the next era of stained glass
conservation.

Subject: Reminder: Survey on Collaboration Between Archivists and Conservators
 Message: Dear colleagues,

This is a friendly reminder that our survey on modes of collaboration and
communication between archivists and conservators is open for three more weeks.
The survey is available to anyone over 18 years of age who works in the United
States as an archivist or a conservator.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to answer approximately 25
multiple choice questions with optional short answers, which should take no
more than 15 minutes to complete. Please do not include any information in your
response that could be used to identify you. Informed consent and survey are

Hello Tara,

If you have access to Klucel-G, we now use a concentration of 8-10% in ethanol
for long term preservation enclosures that use Ethafoam and blue corrugated,
and other paper stocks. Through our testing of variant options and
concentrations, this worked the best. You may want to score the smooth face of
the Ethafoam first, and/or rough up the corrugated.

I'm intrigued by Mark's suggestion of Techbond 240, which I will investigate
for this purpose. I use 3M low-melt glue for temporary exhibition mounts. 3M
415 tape will fail after not too long.

Good luck,

Andrew

Subject: Adhesive for ethafoam?

Dear Colleagues-

What are conservators using nowadays to adhere ethafoam to corrugate board that
is safe for permanent storage? All of the hot low temp melt adhesives do not
pass Oddy and I am looking for something that can be used outside of a lab
setting easily. I can use PVA if I need to, but was hoping for other solutions.

Thanks so much for your suggestions and recommendations in advance,

Tara
