I was honored to be included in the team of editors, each of whom brought their expertise and unique point of view to the work. The volume includes chapters written by a range of specialists, myself included, on objects of atrocity, a subject that is, unfortunately, increasingly important due to current violent wars, genocides, marginalization of communities, and mass displacement. It is a testament to the importance of our field the reactions of early reviewers' to the organization of the sections in the book. The volume was originally organized with the section titled "Preserving Difficult Histories" deep in the middle of the text. The reviewers questioned why this was the case and identified it as foundational to the entire volume. It is now placed immediately after the introduction and includes contributions by AIC members.
