I hope I'm not asking you a brutally stupid question, but I've been hung by FTP
problems in the past, so here goes......

Is your ftp client set to passive mode? Mine only works through the Mandrake firewall
when it is in passive mode.

Subject: [Cooker-firewall] ftp problems still (was blocking call)

Hey!

I'm still trying to track down and fix this weird ftp
problem. I am almost ready to give up and try a different firewall
distro. It's a shame, because I love mandrake, and besides this
problem the SNF is working great.

Machines inside the lan (192.168.1.x) can connect to ftp
servers both inside and outside, but have long delays when listing
contents. The connect works fine, login, password, and CD all work
as well, but the ls command returns a 200 Port command successful,
then hangs. This lag is more than two minutes, and causes most ftp
clients to time out. Sometimes I can't even get the contents after
waiting more than 10 minutes.

I can accomplish all of these tasks on the machine that is on
the outside of the firewall with no problems.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

        thanks for any ideas.
