Laurent (aka lmontel) is the package maintainer for KDE at Mandrake. You may not want to use KDE3. If you aren't really familiar with KDE's layout and the files you'll need and installing something as complex as KDE... Well KDE3 is likely to give you some surprises. From what I understand it has plenty of issues, especially interoperability issues with KDE2. So unless you plan on spending plenty of time fixing KDE3 or working around it's current issues.
