Good, I'll issue a new kmods against it shortly, as well as the Mandrake
kernel.

A depmod is run with a new kernel, not sure what else might be going on in
the background.  You could try to boot into runlevel 3 and see if you can
see more of what's going on. (append "3" to your yaboot choice, ie:
2320-benh 3)
