A start would be to try "xev". This will show you the keycodes and other
things generated by keypresses on your system. If you want to customize the
responses, you will need at least a customized .Xmodmap file in your ~/ for
use under X. Text mode command line keyboard control is different and more
obscure. "man loadkeys" for that.
