I'm wondering...

What happens when a "updated" package comes in at Mandrake. I would
assume
that on the oxygen distro a whole lot of stuff get's recompiled. For
example:

Someone updates gtk+.
The consequence of this is that all the programs depending on gtk+ will
need
to be recompiled.

What I used to do on my system is de-install all of the packages, and
recompile
/ install them in the right order to get everything "fresh" again. I did
this
with a script that I needed to edit if I wanted to do something like
this. I
can say, it was extremely dumb.

Are there tools nowadays that take care of this? Like you submit a
package,
it figures out which packages depend on it, de-installs them, and
rebuilds
+ install the packages in the right order... I beleive freeBSD has
something
like that with their "make world"...

Any comments??
