I'll second that, being an ADSL user in Canada. Just config the ethernet
card as required by your service provider (DHCP, hard IP, PPPoE, etc)
and go. The ADSL modem should be invisible to your system, operating as
a router/hub for all intents and purposes.

The only gotcha is the PPPoE stuff, which does require special drivers
and PPPd to operate correctly. AFAIK, Mandrake has a package but I
haven't tried it myself since I use an entirely different version
authored by a fellow Canadian that has most of it's logic in a kernel
module.
