This is really strange. If I change the 'User Font' it works. Even no
problems
with TrueType fonts. 

Maybe you have a ~/.gtk.mine file. Settings, especially font settings,
in this
file overwrite all other user settings.

Besides this I have no idea what can cause your troubles. If nobody else
on
Cooker can help you can look for help in the Gnome or Gtk mailing list.

Oh - I just got an other idea. Look if there are font settings in
/etc/gtk/gtkrc.
When yes, delete this file and try again. I just found out that (font)
settings
in this default rc file also overwrite all user settings (BUG???).
