You need to provide much more information. What hardware do you have?
Have you tried booting the old kernel? (if you did an upgrade, the old
kernel is still there.) Have you tried booting into rescue mode on the
CD and seeing what is going on? IDE or SCSI? What options regarding
acpi and apic ahve you tried? Any other useful information that you
think might be relevant would be helpful.
