[EMAIL PROTECTED] changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution| |WONTFIX ------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-16 22:49 ------- Something similar to this was available (the "bloat" slider in 7.x) before, and was intentionally removed, since: 1)It is not possible to install all packages, with conflicting packages (at least tmdns and bind at present, there are more). 2)It is not sensible to install all OpenOffice.org i18n packages, when the installer knows which languages you have selected 3)Extra servers should not be installed if not specifically requested, since the user probably will not configure them. Mandrake defaults in most cases to start servers by default if they are installed (since if you install it, chances are you want to use it). Install all servers would thus be a potential security risk. 4)You may want to leave some space for contrib. FYI (my desktop running 9.0 at present): [EMAIL PROTECTED] bgmilne]$ df / Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/hde6 8256888 6737704 1099760 86% / (/home is seperate and almost nothing is on / that was not installed from RPMs) Your 4GB is not nearly enough for all of contrib and cooker, and you would spend more time unselecting than selecting ... Anyway, since with Mandrake it is trivial to install packages not installed at setup time, there is no need for Mandrake to follow RHs bad choices. If you are missing something, just: # urpmi <package name> And change disks (or don't, if you have a local or network source, or a DVD). So, marking as won'tfix ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ------- Reminder: ------- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: There is no easy way to select all the packages. Red Hat 8.0 has an "Everything" option. It would be nice, even if everything was too big (I am currently using 4 GB partitions to test with), if I could select everything and then sort by size of package (enhancement request) so that I could remove the largest packages that I don't care about until it fits. It should only check for enough space (and give an error if there isn't enough) when the user clicks "Install" -- this would allow the user to do what I said (select everything, even if it's too much, then pare it down). This is Mandrake 9.1 beta 3.
