Well, it seems to be a simple case of either a portion of the patch is failing
to apply, or one of the post-patched files is being overwritten/undone by
another patch or somesuch.

I inspected the kernel-source and compared against the latest vfs-lock patch and
everything except drivers/md/lvm.c seems to be patched. For some reason, that
one file is not getting patched. Perhaps the patch itself is missing that file?
Perhaps some other patch is undoing the changes?

I cannot tell very easily what the problem is because Mandrake's CVS SPECS for
the kernel has no details about what patches are being applied and what's in the
patches anymore (since the new patching script has been in place).

description:
The kernel desperately needs the vfslock patch from the LVM project in order to
support snaphots of journalled filesystems. Since Mandrake Linux supports LVM
and it also supports journalling filesystems, it not supporting LVM snapshots of
journalling filesystems is simply a bug.
