yes true. It's no joke. 
It may very well be a gcc bug, and perhaps it can easily be fixed. But the test case 
you provided 
is not valid, as gcc 3.3 is for cooker and the kernel is for 9.1. Therefore, this is 
not as critical as 
you described, it is likely gcc gets updated before the 9.2 release.

just compiling kernel 2.4.21-0.18mdk and I experienced this problem with latest
Cooker gcc-3.3-1mdk:
