Till, this problem has been mentioned before.

IMHO, there needs to be generic "firmware driver loading" support in drakxtools,
that will support things like loadable fonts for SBLive and friends, supporting
firmware which ships on the driver CDs.

description:
I am using the secu update:
drakxtools-9.1-31.3mdk (wich is not in the bugzilla liste)

When I start Scannerdrake, I have the following message:
=> The following scanner: - Acer FlabetdScanner13 flabted scanner
is available on yuor system.

Or when I launch xsane: It stoped and the console give me this message:
Cannot open firmware file /path/to/your/firmware/file.bin
I have found wich firmware I need to use on the http://snapscan.sourgeforge.net:
u96v121.bin, and I have copied it on my system succesfully.

The issue is that ScannerDrake told me evry thing was fine and it was not. I think
that scannerdrake should told me that I needed to copy a firmware from the CDs
provided by Acer and that I needed to modified /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf.

NB: ScannerDrake have detected my scanner as a "FlatbedScanner13" or the
snapscan website is saying that it is a "FlatbedScanner20".

Thanks.
