Indeed. Tim, any chance of making the "content" bit a bit smaller, and having it darker (down to black on the edges) on the outside? > > We couldn't really use Ed Hurst's SuSE-chameleon-eating-MSN-butterfly as > a splash here, but maybe we could do a Mandrake penguin drawing his > wand back from the fading outline of an MS-Windows logo? I think it may be best to keep that kind of artwork out the distro, from a professionalism point of view, MS doesn't have a splash screen saying "GPL is IP theft" or "Better UNIX than UNIX" (even though they might have similar things in their ads). IMHO, the Windows XP/Win2k3 splash stuff is quite nice, a dark bakckground with bright graphics in the center looks quite good. With the current penguin on the console, I was wondering if it's feasible to have usage hints on it, say on the right in subtly-coloured text, stuff like: Root only: Setup X: XFdrake Setup : drakxconf User: GUI : startx Edit : nano Files: mc I guess /etc/issue may be a better mechanism, but I still think "user dumped in console login without X" hasn't been solved, and was a big issue for 9.1 ...
